2016 SPN Provincal Tournament – VCS Results

VCS congratulates all our teams that participated in the 2016 Provincial Championships Sep 16-18 in Abbotsford.

Shameless: Still on a roll, this VCS team took home the “A” division title winning the coveted Provincial Championship for 2016, to go along with their National Championship they won in August. Shameless didn’t have their best round robin losing a tough 1 run game to Hard and Thru from Langley in the 7th, but stormed back through the “A” pool on Sunday defeating the Tigers from Langley in the quarterfinals and then defeating Battalion (also from Langley) in the semi-finals. The “A” division final was played against a team from the Cariboo called the Prince George Throwbacks. This exciting game was back and forth and after 7 innings the final was tied and this one went to extra innings and international rules. Shameless scored 4 runs in the 8th inning and held the Throwbacks to no runs while claiming the 2016 provincial title. Congratulations to Shameless on their 2016 Provincial Championship.

Supersonics: The Supersonics who are a mix of two VCS teams (Wild Rice/Smokin B’Aces) had a great showing at this year’s Provincial Championships. They came out of the gates going 3-0 in the round robin and were placed in the tough B pool. They made it to the B division quarterfinals when they faced and were defeated by the eventual B pool finalists the Cardinals team from Richmond. Great job Supersonics, you do our league proud. You showed the province what we already know, you guys are a really strong team!

Titans: Long time VCS team the Titans competed in this weekend’s Provincial Championships as well. The Titans didn’t have their best round robin due to being one man down with an auto out as a result of some strange scheduling by SPN but they battled hard. The Titans ended up in a playoff pool with some tough teams but they bounced back to their usual ways and ended up going 3-0 when it mattered and winning their playoff division along with a provincial championship defeating a team called “Chaotic Pac” in the final. Congratulations on your provincial title Titans!!!

Booze Bandits: This was their first year as a team competing in the Provincial Championships. Although they didn’t win a game, they had a great time. When asked about the tournament, player/coach Dan Newton said: “”Obviously not the result we hoped for, but we are a 2nd year team punching way above our weight class, and despite going 0-4 I doubt any team had as much fun as we did this weekend. Our approach to this tournament wasn’t any different than any of our VCS Tournaments which was win-or-lose we hit the booze”.  Congratulations Booze bandits on your first provincial Championships, as always you make VCS proud.
